WHALES OF DALLAS | I-Ching photography print

from $250.00

The perfect composition — it’s achieved through a technique called I-Ching. This is a new twist on the accent technique where a finished piece of art is cut into square tiles and randomly placed into a grid, ultimately creating a perfect balanced composition.

In this case, I did an in-depth photoshoot of the Whaling Wall #82 in downtown Dallas. The photos are edited and individual tiles are created digitally and arranged to create a highly curated piece.

I heard that the Whaling Wall #82 mural here in Dallas had recently been uncovered revealing the preserved mural from beneath outdoor advertising. I’m always looking for unique and meaningful subject matter for my art and the minute I saw this public piece I just knew I wanted to capture it. I wanted to do my part to preserve the wall and what it represents, in case it is to be covered up again or even removed. Check out the article about the recently uncovered mural here in Dallas.

I am honored to donate 50% of the proceeds from the sales of this piece directly to the Wyland Foundation. The Dallas mural is number 82 of the 100 murals that Wyland has donated around the globe in his quest of sea manual awareness and ocean conversation through his foundation.

The finished piece is printed as a limited edition Giclée. These prints display sharp, vivid images with a high degree of color accuracy. A member of the versatile family of art prints, this continuous tone, archival quality reproduction represents the best of both worlds: quality and affordability.

• Each limited edition Giclée (100 total) is signed and numbered.
• Choose from 24x24 or 48x48 inches.

ARCHIVAL QUALITY GICLÉE REPRODUCTIONS

Giclée is a French term meaning “to spray”, referring to how an inkjet printer works and how Giclée prints are usually produced. These large format inkjet printers use small spraying devices that can both match color and apply ink precisely, giving artists a high-quality print of their original art. Giclée is a neologism coined in 1991 by printmaker Jack Duganne for fine art digital prints made on inkjet printers. The name originally applied to fine art prints created on a modified Iris printer in a process invented in the late 1980s. But, not all inkjet printers produce Giclée prints. It all boils down to these four elements: resolution, ink, paper, and printer type. Giclée prints tend to last upwards of 200 years if taken care of properly.

All reproductions in the Michael Coman Modern Art collection are limited runs, usually in quantities of 100. All Giclée prints are signed and numbered by the artist.

CUSTOM CREATIONS

Specializing in modern and abstract sculptures, using simple shapes and vibrant colors to inspire and captivate, I work predominantly with wood, dramatic color palettes and finish with high gloss varnish for luster and lasting protection. I also have a line of digitally created abstract masterpiece prints that are available in limited editions, signed, and numbered and ready for framing.

A large portion of my business is creating custom-made pieces, large and small, for individuals and companies inspired by examples of pieces seen in the gallery of this website. These can be used as the basis for your new piece individually designed for you. I'm able to alter many of the displayed items to suit your style and taste, scale and dimensions.
